About Us - School Overview
École Glenbrook Middle School, located in New Westminster, a historic and growing community of approximately 55, 000 in the geographic center of British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, opened in September of 2000. A middle school comprised of grades six, seven and eight, École Glenbrook is a triple track English and French Immersion school with over 650 students and approximately 60 staff.
École Glenbrook Middle School was named after the area of New Westminster in which it was built, an area that was once home to a brook that fed into the Fraser River near the former British Columbia Penitentiary. Glenbrook Ravine Park located across McBride Boulevard to the south and east of the school still bears evidence of this brook. The neighborhood surrounding the school, Glenbrook North, also shares this name.
École Glenbrook is a community school and was built in partnership with the City of New Westminster. The City has created Terry Hughes Park adjacent to the school. The park’s playing fields and the school’s gymnasium and facilities are used cooperatively by students and community-based athletic organizations. Terry Hughes was a courageous young man who, in November 1959, passed away at the tender age of 18 attempting to save a young girl from drowning in the Fraser River.
Our Mission Statement
At École Glenbrook Middle School we care about student success. Our learning community supports one another through our values within a respectful, team orientated environment. We dedicate ourselves to continuous learning and improvement so that we best meet the needs of our students.
Currently, we as staff at ÉGMS are re-evaluating our school goal. As we work through the process, Mindfulness continues to stand out as an area of focus. Over a period of time, we will narrow down this wide topic into a concrete, manageable and measurable goal. We will also develop the path and resources that we will use to support all members of our school community in developing mindfulness.
